Site Waste Management Print E-mail

Denne are implementing Site Waste Management Plan (SWMP) across all new schemes.  These are developed for each project during the pre-construction phase.  The SWMP covers:

  • The responsible individual within the Company
  • Schedule of anticipated waste
  • Review of waste management options against each category of waste
  • System for monitoring and reporting
  • Action plan to minimise waste generation
  • Identification of licensed waste management contractors

The Plan is implemented through a series of policies and procedures including:

SWMP Datasheet

The datasheet is used to report on waste management on the project. It identifies the types of waste that is generated from the project and how the waste has been managed.  Types of waste fall under the categories of inert, active and hazardous.  The options for waste management include:

  • Re-use on site
  • Re-use off site
  • Segregate on-site
  • Segregate off-site
  • Recovery
  • Heat recovery
  • Material exchange
  • Compost
  • Disposal to Landfill
  • Disposal to Hazardous waste depot
Waste Control Schedule

This schedule sets out the anticipated waste by volume against the main waste categories of inert, active / biodegradable and Hazardous expressed in m3.

Trade Contractor Summary Schedule (TCSS) and Training

This schedule sets out the anticipated waste that each trade contractor will be responsible for generating and the agreed management waste management methods.

The schedule forms part of the terms and conditions for our trade contractors.  It covers responsibilities in managing waste including the measures to avoid waste generation and the management process.

This agreement is supported by the induction process where all operative new to the site are made aware of their responsibilities.  Toolbox talks are also used to reinforce the requirements on site.

Method Statement

The method statement provides details of how each waste stream is to be managed.  It sets out the requirements in terms of handling equipment, containers, dedicated areas, sorting and segregating, licences, dealing with Waste Management regulations, reporting and monitoring.

Material Procurement

Part of the material procurement process includes a review of the waste management issues arising from individual products.  This includes packaging, arrangements for return of unused materials, consideration of the use of secondary and recycled materials, and the avoidance of over-ordering.

Review

A waste management performance review is carried out at the end of the project.  This covers the total waste produced and methods of management.  The Site Waste Management Plan Data Sheet provides the detailed performance information.  This information is used to review performance against industry benchmarks.
