Design & Build

This timber frame, key worker scheme was successfully completed in May 2007 and received 'Excellent' EcoHomes rating and winner of the Green Apple Award.

The scheme involved the construction of 25 one and two bedroom flats in two blocks with an additional third bock consisting of one maisonette and two flats for private sale.

The scheme features solar panels, which provides up to 70% of the hot water as well as energy efficient combination boilers, which provide the additional hot water and heating.

Environmental Measures

Special consideration was given to the environment throughout the delivery of this scheme.  To prevent potential damage to the tree roots a shallow dig construction method was used for the construction of the parking area.  A permeable parking surface was then laid to allow water to permeate through to the tree roots.

Community Engagement

Green fingered gardeners with learning disabilities from the Wokingham Resource & Opportunity Centre grew and planted the shrubs as part of the planting ceremony held at the scheme. The local charity, Growing Places offers keen gardeners with learning difficulties the opportunity to learn how to sow seeds, look after seedlings and care for plants in the ground and in the greenhouse.
